A Summer Audience met Catrin Collier & Jill Mansell

It has to be said – and it was repeated by virtually everyone attending

Catrin Collier’s Keynote speech was spell-binding

Catrin, under various pen names, has published over 41 novels worldwide including 3 Quick Reads; in English and translation. She has had three stage plays professionally performed in addition to publishing various articles and short stories. Her first Catrin Collier novel, Hearts of Gold was filmed as a mini-series by BBC Worldwide, and attracted an audience of 6.8 million viewers when shown on UK network TV.

She has three film scripts in development, is in the maximum library public lending band (Top 100 authors). She has taught creative writing for Swansea University, prisons, Arts Clubs etc. She was writer in residence at Killay playgroup for children with special needs. Catrin has participated in Radio/TV Arts Programmes and worked as a radio presenter/researcher/broadcaster.

TY CATRIN, an Adult Education Centre in Rhondda Cynon Taff, named after Catrin Collier, was opened in February, 2003. Her Orion novel, One Last Summer, based on the war time diaries of her Prussian born mother and grandmother is recommended reading for adults by the Holocaust Day Memorial Trust.

Her new novel Bobby’s Girl will be published in mass market paperback July 2012 by Allison & Busby. She is currently working on 3 projects.

The audience laughed, gasped and genuinely marvelled at the depth and variety of research behind Catrin’s books.  Her journey has been a book in itself – probably a mini-series in Catrin’s case and everyone at loveahappyending.com would like to express our sincere thanks for a fascinating insight into the world of such a prolific and hard-working author.

In addition to a day packed with talks, readings and mini-workshops there was a competition. Our loveahappyending.com authors had each submitted a 400 ‘Page-turner’ extract from one of their novels.

Everyone attending had two votes and warm congratulations to the winner:

 Tricia Jones

with an extract from : Bull at The Gate

Ex-Sir William Romney’s pupil, the award-winning author

Jill Mansell

dropped in to select one lucky winner from the voters, who received a stack of books and e-books, plus a Devils With Wings signed poster by author Harvey Black.

The winner was: Julie Wilkinson

from Gloucestershire

Left: Linn B Halton, Jill Mansell and Lou Graham

The day ended with another, rather surprising, announcement but we will keep you waiting until Wednesday 27 June to hear all about that.  In the meantime – another photo round-up to give a flavour of a day that was packed from start to finish.  Don’t forget to pop back and hear more about the other talks, readings and mini-workshops that we’ll be publishing over the next few days.
