Tsunami Of Love and Romance Coming To Bedford

Bedford To Welcome Forty Five Romantic Fiction Authors For UK’s Only Romantic Fiction Festival

Bedfordshire’s county town looks set to be taken over by a tsunami of love and romance on the weekend of 16th to 18th November 2012 as it hosts the UK’s only literary festival dedicated to romantic fiction.
Forty five authors are taking part in the Festival of Romance including bestselling stars Carole Matthews, Trisha Ashley, Miranda Dickinson, Rowan Coleman, Jane Wenham-Jones and Jane Lovering, this years winner of Romantic Novel of the Year.

Authors will be signing books in Waterstones as well as holding a fun Romance Fair selling books and gifts on Saturday 17th November in the Howard Room at Bedford Corn Exchange. The Fair is free entry, open from 10am until 5pm and a perfect chance to meet authors and buy signed books and do some Christmas shopping. Shoppers out in the town centre on Saturday may run the risk of being accosted by redcoated soldiers from Jane Austen’s era and actors in historical costume will be acting out short romantic vignettes. In the Harper Centre authors will be reading from their work and Mills and Boon are inviting the public to take photos of themselves in seaside-style lifesized book cover cut outs.

Festival Director Kate Allan said: “Bedford’s compact town centre, accessibility from a large part of the country and cultural and historical vibe all made sense for a location for the Festival. I am delighted to be bringing this unique and fun event to Bedford and hope that plenty of local people will take advantage of the opportunity to take part and celebrate the strength and diversity of romantic writing with us.”

Ticketed events include a gala awards evening and ball at the Harpur Suite, chances to meet the authors for coffee and cake, at a Rock Star party and for an historical afternoon tea. In addition those hoping to become future stars of romantic fiction can take part in writing workshops and have the chance to pitch their novel live to publishers at a special event at the Corn Exchange on Sunday 18th November. Tickets for all the Festival events are available from the Central Box Office 01234 718112 or online via
